With a portfolio that spans both traditional opera and contemporary compositions, George R. Miller has earned recognition from prestigious organizations and venues around the world. He has presented his work at renowned institutions such as Opera Philadelphia, Long Beach Opera, Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, The Berggruen Institute and The Metropolitan Museum of Art, among many others.
One of his recent and highly anticipated projects is ISOLA, a world premiere opera that explores themes of identity, perception of time, and healing. Crafted in collaboration with the visionary poet J. Mae Barizo and innovative composer Alyssa Weinberg, this immersive production promises to challenge conventions and transport audiences into a surreal, multi-sensory experience.
George's commitment to pushing artistic boundaries is evident in his upcoming projects, including Expostulation(s) of Mary, a chamber opera that fuses voices, strings, dancers, and electronics. Collaborating with accomplished composers Eliza Bagg and Ben Babbitt, as well as choreographer Julia Eichten and the GRAMMY-nominated ensemble Wild Up, this venture promises to redefine the boundaries of opera.
Another ambitious undertaking is an intimate production of Franz Schubert's Winterreise — featuring award-winning bass-baritone William Socolof, where George combines the talents of a singer, dancer, and boy soprano to create a fresh interpretation of this classic masterpiece. This production will premiere in New York in the 2024-2025 season.
In addition to his opera work, George R. Miller is also involved with the performance-art organization Performa, where he is lead Producer on the upcoming Performa23 Biennial in New York City. His dedication to fostering creativity and collaborating with artists from various disciplines makes him a driving force in the contemporary arts scene.
